MOODBOARD
I wanted to retain our group's outputs that were centered around a fictional era/concept. But instead of a Steampunk 19th century Retrofuturistic concept, I chose a concept that I'm really interested and mesmerized of--the concept of a Mythical Fantasy Forest. I mostly see this concept in movies I really like that are adapted from books such as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Narnia, Spiderwick, and also present in children films, mostly in Animes (like Forest of Fireflies Anime and Studio Ghibli films). It is also present in Games such as Skyrim, Genshin, Elden Ring, etc.
My interest in the Fantasy genre along with my childhood love for reading books gave me the perfect opportunity to create a book lamp. In addition, this lamp is perfect for any book lover like me, as its purpose is to illuminate like a magic book that is seen in the said medias.

LAMP CONCEPT
I will be making use of a box that has the dimensions of: 6.3 inches in length; 10.5 inches in height; 2 inches in width. The box will be opened in the middle and mainly decorated with an old FAIRY FIGURINE I found at home.
The first concept, which is a sculpted figurine as a center piece was changed because we ran out of Polymer clay. Also, this type of clay is too expensive to be bought; hence, I resorted to option 2 of rummaging through my stuff, which is also more aligned with the main purpose of this project: repurposing materials I already have.
The book lamp is inspired by a mythical forest so its interior and exterior will be decorated like a terrarium using other recycled decorating materials that I currently have: fake plants and flowers, newspaper, old rough green sponge, and old marbles and fake rocks, tissue, dried glue gun, etc.
As for the lighting, originally, fairy lights were used. However, we were advised that fairy lights should only serve as a decoration for the lamp, which is why I will be using my old sunset lamp (10W LED) as the main light placed at the interior of the book.

FINAL DESIGN
INITIAL DESIGN
My final design was to successfully depict what the magical book is all about---story of a garden fairy at a mythical forest. I mainly want this project to be a symbolism of how limitless we use our imagination in trying to picture out scenes in a book. Hence, I did my best in making the final design of this concept as magical as it can be.
The book lamp is a symbolism of a story about a garden fairy in a magical forest, which had led me to come up with the title "LUMINA." This was inspired both from a light fairy from Tinkerbell and a spell from Harry Potter (Lumos)--both meaning, brilliant light.
As for the exterior of the book, I made use of a box that has the dimensions of: 6.3 inches in length; 10.5 inches in height; 2 inches in width; this was opened in the middle and made use of recycled newspapers to achieve the "open book pages." And given that the book lamp was inspired by a Fantasy mythical forest, the design of the box itself was made to be combination of a tree trunk and an old vintage fantasy book, which was made from brown painted dried glue gun, and tissues.
For the interior design, I used a mixture of blue and green acrylic to achieve the glowing magical forest background. Dried leaves, fake plants and flowers, painted newspaper rocks, old rough green sponge for the moss, and recycled marbles were used as a central and correlating design of the lamp: A Garden Fairy at a Mythical Forest
An old vibrant sunset projection lamp was used for the main lighting; this is known to be a high-power LED with a 10-watt brightness. In addition, Fairy lights were also used for a dimmer lighting option.

BEFORE
WORK IN PROGRESS
& FINAL DESIGN
My moodboard and concept is an inspired Cottagecore along with its subculture of Nature and Faeriecore as a workspace design. The Cottagecore concept was an internet aesthetic that was popularized on Tumblr in the year 2018, where it romanticized the aesthetics of an English countryside and its rustic simplicity (nature, handmade crafts, cottages in a meadow, cabins, gardening, vintage items, etc).
And one of the largest factors that created Cottagecore was Fantasy, which served as the way of escape for the pressures of modern life. This is why a primary element of this concept is a cozy-natured cottage that can be seen in magical woods or fantasy books (Some examples are the Bag End home for the Hobbits at Lord of the Rings, Rapunzel's tower in Tangled, and even Giselle's home in the Disney movie, Enchanted )
My designs of Cottagecore will embrace the use of earthy. warm, green colors. And since it is a subculture of Faeriecore, I will combine and make use of decorations that are centered in nature, flowers, animals, and everything magical. Cozy and homey touches such as vintage stuff, and handicrafts will be added. Decorations made from wood will also be used. Lastly, books will be displayed alongside the lamp to complete the Cottagecore-fantasy interior design aesthetic.
